Business funding requirements: what you need to qualify
The business funding requirements that matter: 12+ months in business, a U.S. business, steady deposits and a business purpose. Here is what RFG looks at.
To qualify for business funding with Royal Funding Group, your business needs 12 or more months in operation, it must be based in the U.S., and the money must be for a business purpose. Beyond those basics, we look at your monthly revenue, your bank deposits and your credit, and we weigh the whole business rather than any one number.
The basic requirements
These are the lines that decide whether we can work with you at all:
- 12 or more months in business. Your business needs at least a year of operating history.
- A U.S.-based business. We serve businesses in all 50 states.
- Business financing only. The funding must be for the business. We do not offer personal loans.
- An operating, revenue-producing business. We do not fund startups or pre-revenue businesses at this time.
If you meet those four, you are eligible to apply. Everything after that is about which programs fit and how much you qualify for.
Why 12 months matters
A year of history gives a funder something real to review. It shows how your business handles a full cycle: a busy season, a slow one, a surprise expense, a big order. Twelve months of deposits answers most of the questions a funder would otherwise ask you directly.
If you are not at 12 months yet, use the time to get ready. Run every dollar of business income through a business bank account. Keep business and personal spending separate. Avoid overdrafts. When you reach your first anniversary, your statements will tell a clear story, and you can apply then.
What we look at after the basics
Revenue
Your average monthly revenue is one of the five questions on the application. It is the biggest factor in how much you qualify for, because it shows what your business can comfortably repay.
Bank deposits
Recent business bank statements show us how money actually moves through your business. Steady deposits, a reasonable balance and few overdrafts all count in your favor. Statements also confirm the revenue figure you gave on the application.
Credit
We work across a wide range of credit scores and look at the whole business, not only the owner’s score. As a general guide:
- 650 and above: best pricing and highest limits.
- 550 to 650: a good fit for most programs.
- Under 550: options may be limited.
A lower score does not end the conversation. Strong revenue and consistent deposits carry real weight. If you want to know where you stand first, see how to check your business credit.
What the money is for
Tell your specialist what you plan to do with the funding. Payroll and inventory point toward working capital. A renovation or large equipment purchase points toward a term loan. A new location or acquisition points toward expansion financing. The purpose helps match you to the program built for it.
What you do not need
Owners are often surprised by what is not on the list.
- No collateral on unsecured programs. We offer up to $5 million unsecured, with no collateral required on those programs.
- No business plan. We look at how your business runs today, not projections.
- No pile of documents to start. The application takes two minutes and asks five questions: amount, average monthly revenue, time in business, mobile phone and email. Your specialist then asks for recent business bank statements by secure link.
That is a big part of why our process moves fast. Approvals come in hours, and funding goes out the same day.
Requirements by industry
The core requirements are the same across industries. What changes is how a specialist reads your numbers. A roofing company with strong summers and quiet winters, a restaurant with weekend peaks, a trucking company waiting on broker payments: each has its own normal pattern. Our specialists know these patterns and judge your deposits against what is normal for your kind of business, not against a one-size template.
If your customers pay you on net 30, 60 or 90-day terms, invoice financing is also worth asking about. It turns unpaid invoices into cash now instead of waiting on your customers. Your specialist sets the exact structure for your business.
A quick self-check
Before you apply, ask yourself:
- Has my business been operating for 12 months or more?
- Is it based in the U.S.?
- Do my business deposits run through a business bank account?
- Can I download my recent business bank statements?
- Do I know what the money is for?
If the answer to all five is yes, you are ready. If you want a deeper look at what strengthens an application, read our guide on how to get approved.
