What credit score do you need for business funding?
What credit score do you need for business funding? At RFG, 650+ gets the best pricing, 550 to 650 fits most programs, and under 550 means fewer options.
There is no single minimum credit score for business funding at Royal Funding Group. We work across a wide range of scores and look at the whole business. As a guide, a score of 650 or higher gets the best pricing and highest limits, 550 to 650 is a good fit for most programs, and under 550 your options may be limited.
The three credit bands
Here is how credit lines up with your options:
| Credit score | What it means at RFG |
|---|---|
| 650 and above | Best pricing and highest limits |
| 550 to 650 | Good fit for most programs |
| Under 550 | Options may be limited |
These bands are a starting point, not a verdict. Two businesses with the same score can get very different offers because the rest of the file is different.
The bands also do not change our basic requirements. Whatever your score, your business needs 12 or more months in operation, it must be based in the U.S., and the money must be for a business purpose. We do not fund startups or pre-revenue businesses at this time, and we do not offer personal loans. If you meet those basics, your score shapes the options, not whether you get a look.
Why the score is only part of the picture
Your credit score tells a funder how you have handled borrowing in the past. Your business bank statements tell them how your business is doing right now. Both matter, and at RFG we weigh them together.
That is why we look at:
- Monthly revenue. What the business brings in.
- Deposit consistency. Whether revenue arrives steadily or swings wildly.
- Account health. Your typical balance and whether you run into overdrafts.
- Time in business. We fund businesses with 12 or more months of history.
- Existing obligations. What you already pay on other financing.
A business with a 600 score, five years of history and strong, steady deposits often has more options than one with a higher score and thin, inconsistent revenue.
What each band looks like in practice
Scores of 650 and above
You are in the strongest position. Expect the best pricing, the highest limits and the widest choice of programs, including larger term loans, lines of credit up to $5 million and expansion financing for new locations or acquisitions. Your specialist will still compare offers from our funding partners so you get the best fit, not just the first approval.
Scores from 550 to 650
This is a good fit for most programs. Many established, healthy businesses sit in this range. Revenue and deposits carry a lot of weight here, and a strong business file often makes up for a middle-of-the-road score. Working capital and lines of credit are common fits.
Under 550
Options may be limited, but limited is not the same as none. We still review the whole business. Strong revenue, steady deposits and years in business can open the door. Expect smaller amounts or shorter terms at first, and ask your specialist to walk you through the total payback on each offer. For more on this range, see our page on low credit business funding.
Personal credit vs. business credit
Most owners think of their personal score first, and for many small businesses that is the one funders check. Your business may also have its own credit file built from vendors, suppliers and accounts in the business name. Keeping both in good shape helps. To see where you stand, read our guide on how to check your business credit.
How to move up a band
Credit improves with time and steady habits. If you want better pricing next time, focus on:
- Paying every bill and existing obligation on time.
- Keeping credit card balances well below their limits.
- Checking your reports for errors and disputing anything wrong.
- Not opening a lot of new credit at once.
- Building a clean history in your business bank account.
You do not need to wait for a better score to get funded. Many owners take funding now to cover a real need, pay on schedule, and come back later with a stronger file. Most of our programs offer early payoff discounts, which reward you for paying ahead when cash flow allows.
If you want to know where your score puts you today, you can apply in two minutes with no documents to start.
Does applying hurt your credit?
That depends on the type of check a funder runs, and practices differ. Ask your specialist which checks happen at each step of the process so there are no surprises. Starting the application itself only asks five questions: amount, average monthly revenue, time in business, mobile phone and email.
Find out what your score qualifies for
Whatever band you are in, the real answer comes from looking at your whole business. A specialist calls you the same day, reviews your revenue, deposits and credit together, and shows you options from our funding partners that fit, with approvals in hours and same-day funding.
