Grow your construction business with equipment financing

How to use equipment financing to grow your construction business, add crews and bid on bigger contracts without tying up the cash you run on.

Equipment financing helps a construction business grow by letting you add machines and crews before the bigger contracts pay, so you can bid on work you could not handle before. Instead of waiting years to save for each machine, you put equipment on the job now and let the work pay for it. The contractors who grow fastest usually plan their equipment around the jobs they want next, not the jobs they have today.

Why equipment limits growth

Most construction companies hit the same wall. To win bigger contracts, you need to show you can do the work: the machines, the crews and the capacity. But to afford the machines, you need the bigger contracts. Owners who pay for everything out of cash grow one machine at a time.

Renting fills some gaps, but rental bills eat into margins, and machines are not always available when you need them. Owning the right equipment makes you faster, more reliable and more competitive on bids.

How financing breaks the cycle

Financing lets you spread the cost of a machine over its working life. The payment comes out of the revenue the machine helps produce. Your cash stays in the business for payroll, materials and the gap between finishing work and getting paid.

That changes how you bid. A contractor who owns two excavators can take on site work that a one-excavator company cannot. A roofing company with its own lift and dump trailer can run two crews instead of one.

A growth plan built around equipment

  1. Look at the jobs you are passing on. What work do you turn down or lose because you lack the equipment or crew?
  2. List what it would take. Which machines, trucks or trailers would let you bid on that work?
  3. Compare to renting. Add up a year of rental bills for the same equipment. Often, owning costs less over time.
  4. Plan the crew. Equipment needs operators. Budget for hiring alongside the machines.
  5. Fund the plan, not only the machine. Cover the equipment and the ramp-up costs together so you do not run short in month two.

Picking the right program

Expansion financing. For adding a crew, growing your fleet or taking on a large contract, expansion financing funds the whole move, up to $5M.

Term loans. For a single large machine you will run for years, a term loan of 12 to 48 months spreads the cost over a longer stretch.

Equipment financing. The machine is paid for and you repay over a set term, typically with the equipment backing the deal.

Working capital. For repairs, attachments and keeping machines running between jobs, working capital is fast, with 5 to 12 month terms.

Invoice financing. Construction customers often pay on net 30, 60 or 90-day terms. Invoice financing gets you cash on those invoices now instead of waiting.

Your specialist structures the deal with you, including the term and whether a down payment is part of it, and compares options from our network of funding partners.

Winning bigger contracts

General contractors and property owners want subs who show up with the right equipment and finish on time. Owning your machines makes you more reliable. You are not waiting on a rental yard, and you can start when the job is ready.

Say a small excavation company has been subbing out larger site-prep jobs because it only owns one machine. Financing a second excavator and a dump truck lets it bid those jobs itself, keep the full margin, and build a reputation for handling bigger work. The next bid gets easier.

If you have a bid coming up that needs more equipment, apply now so the funding is ready when the contract is.

Keep growth healthy

Growth strains cash. Before you add equipment, make sure your plan covers:

  • Payments in your slow season
  • Insurance, fuel and maintenance on the new machines
  • Payroll for new operators
  • The wait between finishing work and getting paid

What RFG looks at

Royal Funding Group funds U.S. businesses with 12 or more months in business, and we work with construction companies of every size. We look at the whole business, not only the owner’s credit score. Approvals come in hours, with same-day funding, and a specialist calls you the same day you apply.

Signs you are ready to grow

Adding equipment works best when the demand is already there. Good signs include a schedule booked weeks out, regular calls for work you turn down, rental bills that keep climbing, and crews that sit idle waiting for a machine. If you see two or three of these, your business is likely ready for more capacity.

Make sure your books are ready too. Keep all revenue running through your business account, track which jobs make money, and know your average monthly revenue. Funders look at those numbers, and you will make better decisions with them in front of you.

Build the business you are bidding for

If equipment is what stands between you and bigger contracts, a Royal Funding Group specialist will map out the machines and the plan, then structure the financing so the work pays for the growth. Apply in two minutes or call (929) 506-8133.
